Check out the new new MAHFIA.COM . This has been a project of mine in the works for oh about…my whole life. Always knew I was going to start my own business since high school and well that time is finally here! The teaser site for MAHFIA.COM launched February 2010 and things have been moving forward at lighting speed ever since. I don’t have too much time to update WoozyLife anymore so these pages will just have to serve as a time capsule for 2009. If MAHFIA.COM doesn’t work out, woozylife is back on! Just kidding.
MAHFIA.COM is a lifestyle videozine that will be like nothing you’ve ever seen before. I’d try to put it in words but I’m a visual person so you’ll just have to watch it unfold and take some wild guesses until the full launch this June.
For now, here are all the clues…

Last summer seems like yesterday but when I think about the fact that it’s almost THIS summer then I think to myself damn time does really FLY. Anyhow, back in July I went along with Sector 9 girls team riders Annie Sullivan and Jen Smith for a week long road trip up and down the best coast known as the west coast. We surfed and skated the shiet out of CA and I filmed the entire journey. Right before we left I picked up a GoPro helmet cam and we tested it out on this trip. I finally got around editing together a quick piece so here it is….enjoy!
Filed under: .4 fashion | Tags: DC SHOES, MAGIC TRADESHOW LAS VEGAS, NEFF, OSIRIS, POOL TRADESHOW, PROJECT TRADESHOW, SLATE TRADESHOW
After Tahoe I decided to take a quick trip out to Vegas to check out MAGIC since I’ve never been before. My homegirl Nereida aka womens footwear merchandiser/color wizard/illustrator extraordinaire/my fashion guru at DC Shoes was heading out there to do the rounds so I decided to go with her. 36 hours in Vegas and a room at the Venetian courtesy of DC Shoes? How could I say no? Having been to ASR, SIA and SURF EXPO, the only tradeshow experience I know involves bros, energy drink pro-hos, groms running around feening for schwag and usually the perfect beer buzz right around 4pm…so I was interested to see how a fashion tradeshow would stack up. MAGIC is actually a bunch of tradeshows linked together. The ones we made it to were MAGIC, PROJECT, S.L.A.T.E and POOL. From what I took away from it all, MAGIC is basically women’s fashion big brands, everything from true religion to skechers (barf). PROJECT is fashion forward boutique-y brands big and small such as L.A.M.B, Alife, Insight plus lots of up and comers. S.L.A.T.E is basically ASR and Agenda mixed with Affliction, Ed Hardy + MMA brands + HOT TOPIC type stuff. POOL is more accessory based brands such as Tokidoki, Yakpak and Baggu and focused on brands that have a message behind the fashion such as green initiatives, etc. SLATE is the most relevant for me and anyone in action sports and in true skate/surf/snow/streetwear nature it was definitely the most happening of the four shows. I guess having Skullcandy on any tradeshow floor rockin live DJ sets pretty much always means a party.
PS. to the couple of people that gave me shit when they saw me taking photos, I say to you, if your products are really that amazing and unique, you should be confident that no one will be able to replicate it. And if someone does come up with the same shit…then that just means you need to step up your marketing game. It’s a dog eat dog world we live in so stop worrying about me taking photos and start working a little harder. End of story.
And here is the photo recap of our trip:

A special “people watching at MAGIC” photo gallery on the next post. It’s entertaining, I promise.
I’ve been on the road the past couple of weeks. Cruised up to norcal with Mel and Fish and got a solid week of riding in at Tahoe. The week started out with an epic powder day on superbowl sunday (best day of the year to ride) and then things warmed up and we ended the trip with a couple gorgeous bluebird days. The snow stayed legit the whole trip and we really couldn’t have asked for better conditions. Tahoe = happy place. In another life I would move to Tahoe and just bum it there forever…..sigh.

Here is a screenshot from some footy we filmed yesterday at heavenly with the go pro helmet cam. The video quality is pretty decent on these little cams but they came out with a new one that is HD so I definitely need to get on that. Plan to work on editing the footy later but enjoy the view for now….
ps not bummed at all that we missed the “big” game
I built a website for my good friend and favorite German snowboarder Vera Janssen last week. Out of all the aspects of design production, websites are the area I am least skilled in but luckily any idiot can make a cool website in iWeb if you’ve got decent photoshop skills. Vera wanted something clean and simple so that is what it came out to be. Get your click on. I finally picked up adobe dreamweaver last week so hopefully more web goodness to come.

Kicked it in LB last weekend with my homie JV and his girlfriend Sara. Funnest sidewalk shredding ever, seriously. Joel Tudor Sector 9 pro model + 4th street sidewalks & curbs = amazing. Also 4th street has some of the best vintage thrift shops ever. The scene around here is pretty hipster but I take hipsters over PB douche bags anyday. Some woozy vision for ya with the point and shoot cam:

push dont pollute

la bomba is the bomb!

hammertime

i dont think anything screams hipster more than this rainbow assortment of cardigans

Cruised the city today with one of my bffs Kathryn who I eternally owe my life to because she was totally cool with me missing her wedding day to extend my trip in Europe to take pics on the Elektro Premier Tour – thanks Kath you truly are the shit, thanks for not ex-communicating me. We first headed to Union Square and then to Japan Town for some sush and shopping and then dinner in the Marina. Check out some pics I snapped of the day. Man I love this city.
